Tabernacle Baptist Church is a King James Bible Church because of the textual issue. Under the authorization of Kings James I, the Bible was to be translated into English using the Majority Text.  In 1603 King James called for the translation to be completed by the appointment of fifty-four learned men. Only forty-seven of the men appointed for this work are known to have engaged in it. These were divided into six companies, two of which met at Oxford, two at Cambridge, and two at Westminster. The work had a slow beginning but took full movement forward in 1607 and completed in 1611.

 

You cannot deny the effect that the preaching of the King James Bible has had on the world over the past 400 years. There have been countless people saved, called to the ministry and dedicated their lives to God and lived for Him all the days of their lives because of the preaching from the King James Bible.

The original manuscripts of this work are wholly lost, no trace of them having been discovered since about 1655.

(1Timothy 1:2) “Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.”

3) “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,”

4) “Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.”

God has given us gifts so that we might be stable in our beliefs, yet when it comes to Bible Translations many are guilty of being have departed and yield to the warning of Paul.

(Ephesians 4:13) “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”

14) “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;”

The King James Bible has been the standard Bible for English speaking believers four centuries, but it is now being forsaken by many Christians for modern translations.

Consider with me a few things about the old Black Back 66.

1. The KJV was completed in 1611 after seven years of translation work by 47 of the best Hebrew and Greek scholars who have ever lived. King James of England did not translate it: he only authorized the translation of a new Bible. In Great Britain the KJB is referred to as the Authorized Version.
2. No modern English Bible has the beauty and majestic grace that the KJB. It is considered one of the greatest pieces of English literature ever produced, even by those who are not Christians.
3. The English language was at the height of its grammatical accuracy during the Elizabethan period. The KJB is the most accurate English translation on the market today.
4. The KJB is the only English Bible available today which is not copyrighted outside of England. Everyone can freely use it and reproduce it. Many early reformers and translators such as John Wycliffe, John Huss, and William Tyndale suffered hardships, were persecuted and even burned at the stake for trying to distribute the Scriptures. Nowadays, a person could be sued in court for reproducing a modern version without the written permission of the copyright owner!
5. Many criticize the KJB because it uses some out-of-date or archaic words. However, there are only about 100 or so of these often used in the Bible and each of them can be found in a good dictionary like Webster's.

Many people do not know that most of the more than 100 new versions of the Bible are not translated from the same Hebrew and Greek texts that the King James translators used.

When somebody says that the translation of a certain verse in the King James Version is “unfortunate,” usually the problem is text rather than translation.

In the late 1800s, a committee of British and American scholars began work on a revision of the King James Bible. They decided that the Greek text of the New Testament used in the translation of the old King James Bible was seriously defective. Although that text represented the New Testament as it had been accepted by most Christians over the centuries, it was spurned because it disagreed with some of the older manuscripts. Almost all of the new versions are actually translations of the new Greek text generated by this committee. This new text is significantly different from the traditional text.

When the reader comes to John 7:53–8:11 in versions that were translated from the new Greek text, he finds the whole story of the woman taken in adultery set apart with lines or brackets. A note is placed in relation to the bracketed section that says something like this: “The earliest and most reliable manuscripts do not have John 7:53–8:11.”

What the textual critics of a century ago were saying, and what the new versions are saying, is that a large amount of the New Testament read, believed, preached, and obeyed by most of our spiritual forefathers was actually uninspired material added to the text. If this new textual theory were true, it would be revolutionary news to the church.

Jesus said;

(Matt 4:4) “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Every man needs every word of God! A man’s needs will not be met unless he has received “every word” that God has spoken.

(Matthew 24:35) “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”

With this promise, Christ assured us that the very words we need in order to live as we should would be preserved throughout the ages.

Other Texts, than the Received Text, are believed to be corrupt and not used as a standard in the day they were written.

Example

(Isa 7:14) “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (KJV)

RSV (Isa 7:14) “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

This verse alone is cause enough to question the deity of Christ.

Not only is the doctrine of the virgin birth undermined in the Revised Standard Version, but also the doctrine of the infallibility of the Bible! No fundamentalist Christian would accept as his standard a theologically liberal translation of the Bible like the R.S.V.

The King James Bible is the most popular book in print in history. No other translations for 250 years.

There was a poll, conducted to mark the 400th anniversary of the King James Version (KJV), found that more than half of all American adults (62 percent) own a KJV Bible. Among those who read the Bible regularly the percentage of KJV owners is even higher.

The King James Bible is a pioneer in English literature. It is not based on the Latin but Anglo-Saxon words. It is broken in phrases and segments with conjunctions and not long wordier statements.

In our schools we study the Development of Western Civilization and this Western Civilization was founded on the King James Bible and the Anglo Saxon culture. This statement is supported by the documents that were written in the development of England and America that is saturated with the Kings James Bible.

Here now are other interesting facts about the King James Bible:

1. Thee and thou, you and ye are more than style in the KJV; they identify singular and plural. Thee, thou and thine are always singular. Ye, you and your are always plural. In modern English, you and your are interchangeably singular or plural. An example of the need for this accuracy is found in John 3:7: "Marvel not that I said unto thee (Nicodemus), ye (everybody) must be born again".
2. The Bible has not been translated, re-translated, and changed throughout the centuries to where it would not be like the original. There are at least 5,309 Greek manuscripts (the language in which the New Testament was written) in existence today. Compare this to only 7 manuscripts of Plato's writings and 49 of Aristotle's existing today. The KJV is the only English translation translated from a body of Greek manuscripts called the Received Text. The Received Text comprises over 95 per cent of the existing manuscripts and agrees almost perfectly together.
3. The modern versions are based upon some faulty manuscripts and have been tainted with the theology of the skeptical higher criticism. Especially important is how the doctrine of Christ is treated. I invite you to make a careful comparison using the KJV with your modern version of the following verses: Mark 16:9-20; Acts 8:37; John 8:1-11; John 9:35; Acts 2:30; Acts 8:37; Colossians 1:14; I Timothy 3:16; and I John 5:7-8.

The issue of modern translations and the numerous English versions available today has brought much confusion among saved and unsaved alike. A person need not be caught up in this confusion if they will take an honest look at the evidence supporting the good old book which has been the firm foundation of Christians for over 400 years.
